In the autumn volunteers of the Valaam Monastery will harvest wet autumn fields of potatoes and fodder beets, gut the slippery trout, sort out the stuffy potatoes, load the bags, pull weeds, split, sow - in a word, to help. In the labouring there is a place for prayer, for interesting conversation, for merriment and humbling, for joy of contemplation of God's beautiful world structure. (Maria Mironova)
