01.03.2013: Solo Exhibition “The Islands of Faith”. The paintings of the Orthodox Series. Opening on 13.03.13 at 17.00 Hotel «Marshal», Shpalernaya St., 41
We would like to introduce a very outstanding artist Sergey Opuls. The artist Sergey Opuls, born in Tashkent, lives in St. Petersburg since almost 25 years ago. The monasteries of the Konevets and Valaam islands and orthodox churches of Russia have become a big part of his inspiring art.
The confessor of the artist, father Jacob (Ambartsumov) says: "The art by Sergey Opuls revives the spiritual experience we had on the holy island of Konevets. His paintings are vivid, the contemplation of such paintings is of great value, that is the recovery of the soul from the massive nervousness of a big modern city. "
" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen>VIDEOANIMATION of OPULS-IMAGES This is how prof. Dmitry Arapov (PhD in history, professor at Moscow University) describes the unique aspect of the works of Opuls: "In his art we can see two "red lines". The former one was born in Central Asia. The colorfulness and intensity of Tashkent and Samarkand, the yellow of the mountains and deserts of Afghanistan are and, in my opinion, will always be a big part of his artistic existence. The latter "red line" is the Russian North, with its rough dimness of dark grayish fields and woods, whiteness of monasteries and churches. The paintings of Sergey Opuls lie close to my heart of an East historian living in northern Eurasia. I hold equally dear both Samarkand and Suzdal, Bukhara and Solovki - everything that became, one way or another, the fate of many Russian people in the last 150 years of Russian history. "
You will be convinced yourself that the native of the South perceives Northern Palmyra differently in comparison with the residents of St. Petersburg. Harmony in riot of coloures, the lively sun, glitter of a smooth lake surface, the greenery of rushes, the alluring summer and enigmatic winter sky are saved for us by the master of brush Sergey Opuls. The images of this artist have everything, that helps and calls us to live: the inner light, the magical colors, unusual composition variations, the internal force.
Mastery of the painter is proved by time and is verified by numerous exhibitions, auctions and art councils in museums where are located his images.
In his biography are more than 50 collective and personal exhibitions in St. Petersburg and Moscow, and solo exhibitions in Hamburg, Temendorf (Germany), winning competitions in Russia and abroad, participation in open-airs and arts sponsorship, urban and corporate events. The images of Opuls were sold at the most respectable auction house in Paris “Drouot”, at auctions in Munich and Dusseldorf in Germany and in the USA.
The most important public and private collections, which stores the paintings of Opuls: Collection of the governor of the Holy Trinity Alexander Nevsky Lavra, Bishop Nazari (St. Petersburg), Archimandrite Isidore Collection - Head of the Russian Ecclesiastical Mission in Jerusalem, Collection of culture counselor of Norway consulate Sigrid Romundset, Collection of British Consul John Guy, Russian-German meeting center in St. Petersburg, Holy Cross Cathedral (Cossack) (St. Petersburg), Konevsky monastery, Leningrad region.
